PhD Degree Stage

The registration for PhD began in 1976/1977.

Conditions of obtaining PhD:

  1. He has obtained 2 of the postgraduate studies diplomas provided that one of these two diplomas is in the public or private law from one of the faculties of law in the Arab Republic of Egypt or the master’s degree or equivalent diplomas or scientific degrees from another recognized scientific institution.
  2. He has carried out innovated researches on a topic approved by the council of the postgraduate studies and research upon the proposal of the faculty’s council for two years at least from the date of the approval by the faculty’s council of the registration of the subject matter.
  3. He must pass the English or French test by a committee annually composed by a decision of the faculty’s council and he must be good at using the computer according to the rules and criteria set by the faculty’s council.
  4. He must present the results of his researches in a dissertation accepted by the judgment committee and it is discussed in public.
  5. The student is entitled to choose the subject matter of his dissertation provided that it is connected to one of the diplomas or the master’s degree he obtained.
  6. The student must present the application of the registration of the dissertation’s subject matter to the Dean of the faculty. Then, it is submitted to the faculty’s council after taking the opinion of the competent department and the decision of the faculty’s council includes the appointment of the advisor of the preparation of the dissertation.
  7. The dissertation’s advisor presents an annual report to the faculty’s council at the end of each academic year about the range of the student’s progress in his research. In light of this report, the registration of this dissertation may be cancelled according to Article 102 of the executive regulations of the regulation of universities law.
  8. Under all circumstances, the registration of the dissertation is extinguished after the lapse of 6 years from the date of its registration except when the faculty’s council agrees to maintain this registration for one period or more it specifies based on the advisor’s report and after taking the opinion of the competent department’s council.
  9. The maximum limit for extending the registration periods of Ph.D is a similar period of the one provided for in the by laws (six years) provided that this is applied at the end of the original registration period provided for in the faculty’s by laws.
  10. The student must print his dissertation when it is determined to be fit for discussion and he must present before discussion to the faculty 5 copies distributed to the members of the judgment committee. Also, the student is obliged to present 50 copies after the judgment of the dissertation including the modifications requested by the judgment committee.

 

The success of the student is announced with one of the following grades:

  • Doctor in Law
  • Doctor in Law with the grade : Good
  • Doctor in Law with the grade : Very Good


The Judgment committee is entitled to grant the honor’s degree to whoever obtains the grade: Very Good. Also, it is entitled to decide to exchange the dissertation with the other universities in case this dissertation deserves that.
It is shown in the PhD certificate the postgraduate studies diplomas or the master’s dissertation obtained by the student and the subject matter of the dissertation he presented in addition to the grade he obtained .
